The French Figure skating Federation announced today Pechalat (29) / Bourzat (32) 's decision to choose coach Igor Shpilband for the upcoming Olympic season. The decision seems suggested by the dance couple's will to compete at their best for what looks like their last competitive season Olympics. However, Nathalie and Fabian will remain in Detroit, where they were previously coached by Carmelengo.
As Piseev declared on Wednesday, the Russian Federation board met yestarday to decide if granting a release to Ivan Bariev. The 22 years old skater signaled to the FISG his desire to skate for Italy last month. The Russian Fed granted Bariev its permission to skate for Italy, as it granted the same permission to Polina Shelepen, who asked to skate for Israel, since both skaters have already the citizenship of these countries and theirs feds' approval.
I'm sure you've already heard that Ivan Bariev, 22 years old, intends to skate for Italy. Doppio Axel, an Italian figure skating magazine, recently shared the news on facebook.
Ivan Bariev sceglie l'Italia! Il 22enne nato a Mosca da madre russa e padre italiano ha manifestato alla Federazione Italiana Sport del ghiaccio la propria intenzione di pattinare per l'Italia a partire dalla prossima stagione.
Bariev, coached by Nikolai Morozov, is the 2008 Russian Junior Champion. He underwent meniscus surgery in his right knee end of October 2007 and also missed most of the 2009/10 season due to injury. His father being Italian, citizenship wont be an issue for Ivan. However, he can't qualify for the Olympics, where Italy is entitled to only one spot, because he last skated for Russia at Cup of Nice in October 2012, finishing fifth, and he will be in "quarantine" till the end of October.
The biggest problem for Bariev is getting a release from the Russian federation. At the start of the month, Piseev told R-media that they didn't get any request from Bariev. But something seems to have changed: Piseev declared yesterday that the Federation board will meet May 16 to take a decision on the matter.
Ivan Bariev is not the only skater that could increase the family. Indeed, also world champion Dario Betti is assessing if he has any chance to move successfully from roller skating to ice skating. The transition shouldn't be too hard, we have many example of successful transition of the kind: Matteo Guarise, to remain in Italy, but also Haven Denney and Brandon Frazier, and Tara Lipinski, if I remember well.
Synchronized skating is a large and fast-growing discipline of figure skating where 8—20 (the number of skaters on a team depends on the level) skaters skate on ice as a team, moving as one flowing unit at high speeds. The discipline was originally called precision skating in North America because of the emphasis on maintaining precise formations and timing of the group.
Held since 2000, the World Synchronized Skating Championships is an annual event organized by the International Skating Union and attracts the most elite synchronized skating teams from around the world to compete for the World Championship. The 2013 WSSC will be held April 2-6 in Boston.

"No doubt his (Chan's) skating is very good and he glides and moves well on the ice. Still, his placement and the marks he was awarded in the PCS, in my opinion, are definitely not acceptable. How could he be placed ahead of Javier Fernandez and Yuzuru Hanyu, who executed flawless programs of a very high technical and artistic standard? And this is not the first time that this has happened. It has become “normal”. I am speechless. Surely it is not Patrick’s fault if the judges continue to overmark him. He is the lucky and happy victim of a judging system that, thanks to secret judging, allows the judges to carry on unpunished" - Sonia Bianchetti

Davis/White’s performance to “Notre Dame de Paris” was highlighted by intricate footwork and difficult lifts. The 2012 World silver medalists earned a level four for the lifts, twizzles and the spin and a level three for the two step sequences to pick up 112.44 points and totalled 189.56 points to take their second world title since 2011.
Virtue/Moir completed innovative lifts and strong footwork in their passionate “Carmen” program to post a seasons best of 111.17 points. At 185.04 points overall, they remained in second place.
Dancing to “Man With A Harmonica” and “Tosca”, Bobrova/Soloviev produced level-four lifts and twizzles, but the two step sequences merited a level two only. With 99.14 points, the European Champions were ranked fourth in the Free Dance, but overall held on to third place to take their first World medal at 169.19 points.
Anna Cappellini/Luca Lanotte were ranked third with their “Carmen” and moved up from fifth to fourth overall (168.04 points). Kaitlyn Weaver/Andrew Poje placed fifth at 166.20 points while 2012 World bronze medalists Nathalie Pechalat/Fabian Bourzat dropped from fourth to sixth at 165.60 points.
Performing to “Les Miserables”, Kim reeled off a triple Lutz-triple toe combination, triple flip, three more triple jumps as well as three level-four spins and level-four footwork. The Olympic Champion scored 148.34 points and racked up 218.31 points overall to win her second World title and her fifth medal at the ISU World Championships.
Kostner hit a triple Lutz, triple flip-triple toe and two more triples as well as difficult spins and steps in her “Bolero” routine, but fell on an under rotated triple Salchow at the very end. The 2012 World Champion had to overcome a nose bleed that started just before her performance. Kostner collected 131.03 points, a seasons best, and accumulated 197.89 points to take home her fifth World medal.
Asada went for a triple Axel right out of the gate in her “Swan Lake” program but two-footed. The two-time World Champion rallied back to land five triples including a double Axel-triple toe combination and got a level four for one spin and the footwork. The reigning Four Continents Champion scored a seasons best of 134.37 points and was ranked second in the Free Skating. Overall she scored 196.47 points. Asada took her fourth World medal.
Kanako Murakami slipped from third to fourth at 189.73 points. Ashley Wagner placed fifth ahead of teammate Gracie Gold who moved up from ninth to sixth (184.25 points).
